El circuito del Grand Prix de la FIDE se disputa con 18 jugadores de elite que deberán participar al menos en cuatro de los seis torneos programados durante dos años (2012-2013). El ganador y el segundo clasificado del Grand Prix jugarán el Torneo de Candidatos que se disputará en marzo de 2014.

Control de tiempo: 120 minutos para los primeros 40 movimientos, 60 minutos para los siguientes 20 movimientos y a continuación cada jugador recibirá 15 minutos adicionales y un incremento de 30 segundos por jugada a partir del movimiento 61.
