Alexander Moiseenko vs. Etienne Bacrot

En la partida entre Alexander Moiseenko y Etienne Bacrot se planteó la Variante Alatortsev del Gambito de Dama. Al principio, los jugadores siguieron la teoría conocida al respecto. En el movimiento 14, las blancas jugaron una novedad: Ae2. Como consecuencia de ello, las blancas se veían forzadas a quedarse en el centro con su rey y más adelante no quiso repetir movimientos. El movimiento 29.Dc5 de las blancas resultó ser una inexactitud. Aún así, las negras no le castigaron por ello (29...a3! en lugar de 29...Ad3). Finalmente la partida concluyó en tablas por jaque continuo.

Ding Liren vs. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave

En la variante simétrica de la Apertura Inglesa, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave tomó la iniciativa y se lanzó al ataque temprano con d7-d5 en el centro. Ding Liren reaccionó con una jugada más bien extravagante, un ataque por el flanco con h2-h4-h5, una idea puesta en práctica primero por Wolfgang Uhlmann en 1978, que ha sido imitada en pocas ocasiones. El francés incluso permitió que el peón avanzase hasta la casilla h6, donde le resultó un incordio. Al intentar liberarse del molesto peón, las negras se metieron en serios apuros en el flanco de rey y pronto no les quedó más remedio que rendirse.

Richard Rapport reaccionó con 3.Ab5 al intento de Ian Nepomniachtchi de jugar la Siciliana Najdorf. Ambos jugadores siguieron la variante principal tras 3...Cd7. Al jugar 7.c4, el húngaro le dio un carácter posicional a la partida, orientada hacia Carlsen - Anand (Sandnes, 2013) El movimiento 9...Tab8 fue la novedad planteada por Nepomniachtchi en comparación con dicha partida. Habrá retransmisiones de las partidas en el sitio web oficial y en Playchess.com Contaremos con análisis post mortem con los jugadores, a cargo de Daniel King.
