En la última partida Carlsen tenía la ventaja de que podía jugar con blancas contra Levon Aronian. Sobre el tablero apareció la famosa Española, con la cual las blancas suelen evitar enfrentarse con la desagradable variante Marshall. Carlsen forzó el cambio de damas. En el mediojuego, pronto las negras tomaron la iniciativa y Magnus llegó a encontrarse en una posición muy pasiva. Aronian ganó un peón, pero eso a costa de la movilidad de sus piezas. Le resultaba difícil al armenio avanzar.

Tras una silenciosa oferta de tablas, rechazada por Aronian, Carlsen liberó su posición y tomó el mando. La posición de las negras se derrumbó sorprendentemente rápido y Carlsen se alzó con la victoria de la partida y del torneo.
En su partida contra Gata Kamsky, Hikaru Nakamura como siempre aspiró un juego complicado y táctico. El movimiento de Kamsky 1.e4 lo respondió con la Siciliana Najdorf y al Ataque Inglés reaccionó con 6...Cg4. A continuación, Nakamura se quedaba con el rey en el centro, tenía un juego activo por el flanco de rey, pero tuvo que aguantar cierto contraataque de su oponente contra el rey no enrocado. Finalmente la partida concluyó en tablas.
