12/02/2009 – Entre el 5 y 8 de febrero pasados se desarrollaron en la ciudad de Santiago de Chile los campeonatos nacionales juveniles de ajedrez absoluto y femenino para las categorías sub-8 a sub-18. El lugar de juego fue el Gimnasio Municipal de la comuna de Las Condes, un recinto deportivo con canchas de fútbol y piscina, las cuales también fueron utilizadas por los participantes (Al menos los que no tenían en brazo enyesado, como el jugador valiente de la foto) La organización corrió a cargo de la Fundación Chilena de Ajedrez, que registró una marca de 209 participantes. Campeonatos Juveniles de Chile 2009 (sub-8 a sub-18)
La organización estuvo a cargo de la Fundacion Chilena de Ajedrez, lográndose un récord de concurrencia con la presencia de un total de 209 participantes provenientes del norte y sur del país. Apoyaron esta competencia la I. Municipalidad de Las Condes y la empresa Bilz y Pap, quienes cooperaron con refrescos para los participantes.
La sala de juego
En la serie sub-8 se realizaron dos torneos round robin (liga), resultando campeona en la serie damas la joven Mackarena González proveniente de la ciudad de Quillota. En la competición absoluta el ganador, por segundo año consecutivo, fue el joven de Curacaví Lukas Ruz Hernández.

En la categoría sub-10 la ganadora indiscutida con un resultado perfecto fue Vania Chávez Gálvez, también de Curacaví, mientras que en la competición absoluta triunfó el joven Alexander Stater Peacock de Santiago.

Las series sub-12 estuvieron dominadas por los jugadores de la ciudad de Concepción, VIII región, pues en la categoría femenina la ganadora fue la penquista Francisca Sánchez y en la de los chicos el título fue para Víctor Fuentes Parra, del club de ajedrez de Concepción.

En la serie sub-14 femenino la favorita Valentina Jorquera (Rancagua) respondió totalmente a sus pergaminos, ganando su categoría sin dificultad, mientras que en la absoluta, Gustavo Alarcón Careaga de la ciudad de Linares se quedó con el título al derrotar al favorito y ex campeón panamericano Cristóbal Henríquez Villagra.

La serie sub-16 femenina se combinó con la sub-18, resultando un disputado torneo de dos series clasificatorias con ronda final. El título de la mejor dama sub- 16 años fue para la representante de Calama, norte de Chile, Anariky Valenzuela Astudillo, mientras que en categoría sub-18 la joven de Talca María José Toro se quedó con la corona.

En un muy disputado torneo suizo la serie absoluta sub-16 fue definida en la última ronda, resultando vencedor el joven de Rosario Nicolás Abarca González, mientras que finalmente en la categoría sub-18 el ganador fue el capitalino (¡el segundo campeón de Santiago!), Nicolás Olivares, quien representó al liceo de aplicación.

El arbitraje general de la competencia estuvo a cargo del árbitro Internacional Hugo Guzman Haensh, lográndose una organización de excelente nivel que dejó a todos quienes participaron deseosos de volver pronto a la edición del Bicentenario de este espectacular torneo.
