Una línea extraña de la Najdorf... Es bastante poco usual que la Siciliana negra termine con un peón de dama aislado. La compensación que recibió Gelfand por su debilidad estructural molestó bastante el desarollo y el juego con soltura de Karkjakin que entonces tuvo problemas para coordinar sus piezas y en ningún momento pudo desarrollarlas de manera normal. La partida concluyó en tablas con un equilibrio dinámico sobre el tablero.

Todo el mundo estaba pendiente de esta partida. Jakovenko necesitaba ganar para asegurarse una plaza en el Torneo de Candidatos, mientras que unas tablas habrían requerido una serie de carambolas muy poco probables para que se pudiera clasificar. Jakovenko no lograr crear complicaciones suficientes para desequilibrr la partida a su favor. Tablas.

Uno de los resultados que necesitaba Jakovenko para clasificarse con sus tablas era que Caruana perdiese. Eso no estuvo ni cerca de suceder, incluso aunque la posición de Giri era ligeramente favorable desde la apertura, su ataque por el flanco de rey iniciado con un rápido avance g4 salió rana. Caruana quedó con una posición mucho mejor, pero decidió jugarla de forma segura y entabló la partida, asegurando su plaza.

La variante Sveshnikov de la Siciliana había vivido su auge a comienzos de los años 2000, pero desde entonces ha ido perdiendo popularidad. Eso sí, Gelfand sigue planteándola con regularidad pero salvo en su caso, no se ve con mucha frecuencia en los torneos de la elite mundial. Grischuk jugó esa variante en la undécima partida y obtuvo unas tablas con bastante facilidad. El ataque de Domínguez por el flanco del rey, con dama y caballo únicamente bastó para jaque continuo.

La única partida decidida de la undécima ronda. Jobava tenía una mala posición en una dudosa variante de la Francesa. La ventaja posicional de Svidler fue creciendo hasta llegar a un final en el que el jugador ruso tenía un peón de ventaja. Eso sí, Jobava habría tenido buenas posibilidades para entablar si hubiese jugado con mucha más precisión, pero es más fácil decirlo que hacerlo. Tras una serie de errores, Jobava se encontró en una posición desesperada y se vio forzado a rendirse.
Jobava ocupó el puesto número 11 de la clasificación. Sufrió cuatro derrotas, conquistó un triunfo y 6 tablas.
Tomashevsky, Evgeny ½-½ Vachier-Lagrave, Maxime
Esta partida se podría ver como representativa de la manera en que le ha ido el torneo a Tomashevsky. Comenzó como líder de la serie del Grand Prix de la FIDE y con buenas vibraciones. Tuvo opciones hasta el final, pero luego no le bastó.
En la partida de la undécima ronda contra Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Tomashevksy había obtenido ventaja tras la apertura. Logró ganar no solo uno, sino dos peones y aún así la presión que ejercía MVL era agotadora. Las blancas tenían problemas a la hora de introducir en el juego su torre y tuvieron que defenderse de las negras. Sacrificaron un peón como último intento de ganar el final de la partida, pero no lo consiguió y tras más de 100 movimientos se firmaron las tablas.

Tras su visita durante la última ronda al torneo del Grand Prix. Ilyumzhinov participó en una ceremonia de galardones para jóvenes. A continuación plantó un árbol en la "Avenida de los Campeones".
