Entre el 8 y el 16 de abril se disputó el Abierto de Bangkok en Tailandia. Se ha convertido en una cita conocida y muy aprecidada entre muchos ajedrecistas. Algunos de los participantes de toda la vida son los grandes maestros Nigel Short (Inglaterra) y Jan Gustafsson (Alemania). Esta vez también se apuntó Wang Hao, de China.
