Nakamura tuvo que defenderse mucho para mantener las tablas en su partida contra un fiero Anish Giri. Aronian aplastó a Ian Nepomniachti en tan solo 26 jugadas. Vachier-Lagrave derrotó a Shirov. El LXXIII Torneo Tata Steel se celebra entre el 14 y el 30 de enero de 2011, en Wijk aan Zee (Holanda)
El torneo de ajedrez Tata Steel consta de tres torneos principales. Se juegan por el sistema de liga en el tradicional De Moriaan Center de Wijk aan Zee. Los tres grupos de grandes maestros tienen 14 jugadores. Todas las rondas comienzan a las 13:30 horas, excepto la última del 30 de enero, que comenzará a las 12:30 horas. Los días de descanso son: 19, 24 y 27 de enero. Ritmo de juego: el control de tiempo es de 100 minutos para 40 movimientos, seguidos por 50 minutos para 20 movimientos y luego 15 minutos para las jugadas restantes con 30 segundos de incremento por cada jugada desde la primera.
