Mathias Wüllenweber fundó
ChessBase allá por 1986. Sus ideas para reestructurar el conocimiento
ajedrecístico con la ayuda de los ordenadores y las bases de datos de ajedrez
rompió moldes. Fue el primero que desarrolló una base de datos digital con miles
de partidas de ajedrez, que hoy en día es una herramienta de uso cotidiano para
cualquier ajedrecista y que entonces era un arma formidable. Siguieron muchas
más ideas: ChessBase, un programa gesto de bases de datos de ajedrez, el módulo
de ajedrez Fritz, Playchess.com, el mayor servidor de ajedrez del mundo, y por
último pero no por ello menos importante, Ludwig, un programa que compone,
escribe y arregla música.
Mathias Feist es también un programador y uno de los cerebros que está tras
el módulo Fritz. En la actualidad, mejorar el módulo es cada vez más difícil,
pero Mathias se empeña precisamente en eso. También juega un papel crucial en el
desarrollo de todas las interfaces de ChessBase y así es quien debe responder
cuando se trata de explicar algunas características de los programas.
