Gukesh e Iniyan suben al podio
Arjun Erigaisi, de 18 años, ganó previsiblemente el 58º Campeonato Nacional de Ajedrez de la India 2022. Superó a D Gukesh e Iniyan P en los desempates después de que los tres obtuvieran 8½/11 puntos.
El resto de los diez primeros clasificados obtuvieron 8/10 puntos cada uno. Koustav Chatterjee y Pranav Venkatesh fueron los únicos dos Maestros Internaciones que se situaron entre los 10 primeros. Sólo cuatro jugadores más jóvenes que Arjun han ganado el título nacional en la historia del ajedrez indio. Es evidente que el futuro del ajedrez indio es muy brillante dado que son adolescentes los que están ganando los torneos nacionales tanto en la sección abierta como en la femenina.
Arjun ganó el título a los 18 años. Karthikeyan Murali ganó su primer título en 2015 (16 años), su segundo triunfo en 2016 (17 años), G Akash en 2012 (16 años), B Adhiban en 2009 (17 años) y Parimarjan Negi en 2010 (17 años). Este año, todos los integrantes del podio son adolescentes: Arjun (18 años), Gukesh (16 años) e Iniyan (19 años). Todas las partidas que jugaron entre sí terminaron en empate.
Arjun ha jugado dos torneos este año, ¡y ha ganado los dos! En abril, el joven impresionó al mundo del ajedrez al ganar el Tata Steel Challengers en Wijk aan Zee.

Iniyan P (Tamil Nadu) venció al campeón defensor, Mitrabha Guha (Bengala Occidental), en la última ronda.
Las blancas obtuvieron una posición favorable después de que su oponente optara por 8...Ce6 en esta estructura de la Defensa Petrov. Las negras no pudieron recuperar el equilibrio en lo que sobró de partida. Iniyan consiguió una cómoda victoria.

Koustav Chatterjee (Bengala Occidental), traes caer ante GM D Gukesh, firmó tres tablas seguidas y luego superó a Srihari L R (Tamil Nadu) en la penúltima ronda. El Maestro Internacional terminó el torneo con el mismo buen desempeño con el que lo había empezado, venciendo a Lalith Rohit (Petroleum Sports Promotion Board) en una partida interesantísima.
El blanco sacrifica un peón en la segunda jugada a cambio de un desarrollo rápido de piezas y buenas opciones de ataque, y el negro puede caer muy fácilmente en alguna de las muchas celadas sibilinas en plena apertura.
Lalith erró temprano en la apertura, por lo que tuvo que lidiar con muchos obstáculos. 12.b4 provocó una oleada de ataques, pero las blancas no tenían muchas opciones de cualquier manera. 12...e3 es casi ganadora para las negras, pero Koustav prefirió jugar la interesante 12...Cf3+. Las blancas reagruparon sus fuerzas con 13.Axf3 Axh3 14.Ah5 Dg5 15.Axf7+ Rxf7 16.bxc5 Dxd5.
Las blancas consiguieron simplificar la posición, pero su rey seguía en el centro y sus piezas descoordinadas. Sus problemas no se esfumaron.
¿Cuántas veces se ve una dama atrapada en el medio del tablero? Técnicamente, la dama blanca podría escapar a h4, pero esto sería respondido por ...Db1 mate. Las negras tienen una posición completamente ganadora y provocaron el abandono de su oponente cuatro jugadas más tarde.
