Ayer fue la cuarta y última jornada del duelo entre Magnus Carlsen y Ding Liren. En esta ocasión tocaron 12 partidas de ajedrez relámpago. Ding Liren ganó la tercera partida, pero esa fue la única victoria que logró conquistar contra Carlsen (Cada victoria valía dos puntos) Magnus ganó 6 de las 12 partidas y firmó tablas en las restantes. Para ser honrados, Ding Liren tuvo más oportunidades de lo que refleja el marcador final. En algunas de las partidas tuvo posiciones bastante buenas, pero no logró convertirlas en triunfos. El factor tiempo jugó un papel importante en eso. Carlsen simplemente jugaba rapidísimo.

Según la manera clásica de valorar las victorias, Carlsen dejó el marcador final en 22:8. El chino únicamente ganó dos partidas, Carlsen 16. Pero en San Luis se aplicaba otra valoración.
Una victoria contaba:
2 puntos en las partidas de 5 minutos
3 puntos en las partidas de 10 minutos
4 puntos en las partidas de 20 minutos
5 puntos en las partidas de 30 minutos
Y porque no.
El premio en metálico de 100.000 dólares se repartió independientemente del marcador: 60 % para el ganador y 40 % para el perdedor.
Cabe destacar que de las 7 partidas victoriosas de ayer, 6 fueron ganados con las piezas negras. Únicamente 2 partidas se inauguraron con 1.e4 (por parte de Carlsen). En las demás jugaron o 1.d4 o bien 1.Cf3/1.c4. Carlsen se defendió en 4 ocasiones con la India de Rey, que normalmente es la defensa favorita de Ding Liren, y sumó 4 victorias (8 puntos según la valoración oficial del torneo).
