La nueva versión 18 de ChessBase ofrece posibilidades completamente nuevas para el entrenamiento y el análisis de partidas: análisis del estilo de juego, búsqueda de temas estratégicos, acceso a 6.000 millones de partidas de Lichess, preparación del oponente tras una exploración de sus partidas en Lichess, descarga de partidas de Chess.com con API incorporada, motor de análisis en la nube y mucho más.
El cuarto torneo de la serie del Grand Prix de la FIDE se celebrará en Nalchik (Kabardia-Balkaria, Rusia) entre el 14 y el 29 de abril de 2009, en el Intour Hotel "Sindica". Las partidas se disputarán entre el 25 y el 29 de abril de 2009. Los días 20 y 25 de abril serán días de descanso. La bolsa total de premios asciende a 162.000 euros.
El primer día de descanso, tras cinco rondas de dura lucha, los jugadores fueron "metidos" en un autobús para hacer una excursión a la región de Chereksky (Kabardia-Balkaria).
Al mediodía, el autobús llegó a la frontera administrativa de la región y los representantes administrativos estaban esperando a los jugadores para darles la bienvenida oficialmente.
Primero hubo una representación de danza. Después actuó un cantante famoso de Balkaria, reconocido con honores del KBR Aznor Ulbashev. A continuación, fiel a la tradición, se tomó la bebida nacional, servida en un cubo de madera.
El primer trago fue para el invitado más honorable, el décimo campeón del mundo y comentarista de la competición, Boris Spassky. Boris Vasiljevich probó la bebida y le pasó el cubo al árbitro jefe Vyacheslav Namruev.
A continuación, todos los excursionistas probaron el brebaje. En la foto se ve a Levon Aronian y al analista del torneo del Grand Prix, Sergey Shipov, que no parece demasiado convencido de la bebida. Al fondo se puede ver a Grischuk, Alekseev (solo un trocito suyo) y a Mamedyarov, esperando su turno para beber. Airan es una bebida hecha de yogur y agua, popular en Turquía, Armenia, Azerbaiyán, Irán, Líbano, Bulgaria y otras partes de los países orientales, el Oriente Medio y Asia Central. Los armenios dicen "tahn", en India se llama "lassi" y en Irán "doogh".
