A falta de las últimas dos rondas, está claro que la lucha por la victoria de la vigésima y última edición de ese prestigioso torneo, se llevará a cabo entre Aronian y Carlsen. En la clasificación de partidas a la ciega, Aronian también ha mejorado su posición y va a 1½ puntos por delante de Vishy Anand. XX torneo Amber de partidas rápidas y a la ciega
La XX edición del torneo Amber de partidas rápidas y a la ciega, se celebra, en el Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort, en Mónaco, entre el 11 y el 24 de marzo de 2011. La bolsa de premios asciende a 227.000 euros. Cuando se clausure el torneo el 24 de marzo por desgracia también terminará la era de un torneo muy especial. El primer torneo (solo de partidas rápidas) se llevó a cabo en Roquebrune (Francia), en 1992 con motivo de la celebración del cumpleaños de la hija del matrimonio Van Oosterom, Melody Amber. Se coronó vencedor Vassily Ivanchuk, el único ajedrecista que ha participado en ¡todas las ediciones! En 1993 se introdujo la fórmula única del torneo, como combinación entre partidas rápidas y a la ciega y se jugó en Mónaco. A partir de 2008, el torneo se mudó a Niza. Por razones históricas, los organizadores han optado por regresar a Mónaco para la edición de despedida de este espectáculo único del ajedrez.
El ritmo de juego es de 25 minutos por jugador y partida. En las partidas a la ciega hay un incremento de 20 segundos por jugada y en las partidas rápidas se añaden 10 segundos. Habrá retransmisiones en directo de las partidas en el sitio web oficial y en el servidor de ajedrez de ChessBase, Playchess.com.
