Paikidze, aunque jugaba con blancas, cayó derrotada por la joven talento Jennifer Yu. En la sección abierta, Alexander Onischuk empató con Gata Kamsky, mientras que Akobian fue derrotado por Hikaru Nakamura. En la sección femenina, Nazi Paikidze empató con Maggie Feng, mientras que Sabina Foisor se impuso a Emily Nguyen e iguala en lo más alto con Paikidze (5,5/8)
06/04/2017 – ¡Vaya ronda de sorpresas! El número 3 del mundo, Fabiano Caruana (Elo 2823), fue derrotado por un jugador de libre designación, Yaroslav Zherebuk (Elo 2617). Éste jugó una partida brillante contra Caruana. Alex Shabalov venció con negras a Jeffery Xiong y Gata Kamsky se impuso a Daniel Naroditsky. En la sección femenina, Nazi Paikidze utilizó su carisma para escaparse con unas tablas en una posición peligrosa y manda con 4,5/6 junto con Sabina Foisor.
