01/11/2023 – Entre el 21 y el 28 de octubre de 2023, se disputó el Festival de Ajedrez de Hoogeveen de este año. El GM italiano Lorenzo Lodici se coronó campeón del torneo abierto como único jugador con 8/9 puntos. El maestro neerlandes Nico Zwirs quedó subcampeón con 7/9 puntos. El joven maestro FIDE Siem van Dael ocupó el tercer puesto con 6,5/9. Hubo más torneos dentro del marco del festival. 25/10/2022 – Entre el 15 y el 22 se celebró el Festival de Ajedrez de Hoogeveen, en Holanda. El primer duelo se disputó entre entre el inglés Luke McShane (a veces llamado el mejor amateur del mundo) y Lucas van Foreest (hermano de Jorden). Van Foreest ganó esta partida con 4-2. Lucas ganó las tres partidas con blancas, hizo tablas en dos y perdió una con negras. La segunda partida enfrentó a los jóvenes Max Warmerdam (Holanda) y Daniel Dardha (Bélgica), ambos actuales campeones nacionales de sus países. Hubo cuatro tablas y ambos ganaron una partida. En las partidas blitz de desempate, Daniel demostró su ajedrez callejero y ganó las dos partidas. El grupo de aficionados fue un desafío para los más madrugadores: ¡las partidas empezaron a las nueve de la mañana! Entre los 57 jugadores había tres jugadores de Uganda. El jugador más joven nació en 2014 y el más viejo en 1939. ChessBase patrocinó varios premios para este grupo.
