Jan Werle (Warnsveld, 15.01.1984) es un gran maestro holandés y jurista.
Nació en Achterhoek y pasó la mayor parte de su juventud en Beetsterzwaag. Jan ha terminado sus estudios universitarios en Derecho y actualmente es residente de Groninga.
Werle fue Campeón Juvenil de Holanda en diversas categorías: en 1994 sub-10, en 1996 sub-12, en 1997 sub-14 y en 199 sub-16.
Logró el título de maestro en 2001
En 2005 dibutó en el Campeonato Absoluto Individual de Holanda y ocupó el séptimo puesto.
En enero de 2006 Werle ocupó el segundo puesto compartido en el grupo C del torneo Corus (ahora Tata Steel) en Wijk aan Zee. Más adelante aquel mismo año recibió el título de gran maestro de ajedrez.
En el Campeonato de Holanda 2006 ocupó el sexto puesto compartido con 5,5/11 puntos.
Aquel mismo año ganó el torneo Essent en Hoogeveen, junto con Ivan Cheparinov
En el torneo Corus 2007 participó en el grupo B y ocupó el puesto 11/12
En 2008 Werle ganó el Campeonato de la Unión Europea por delante de Nigel Short y Michael Adams
En 2009 ocupó el último puesto (compartido) en el grupo B del torneo Corus en Wijk aan Zee
En el festival de ajedrez de Groninga en 2009 ocupó el segundo puesto (compartido)
25/08/2016 – Cada año en julio los organizadores italianos Alessandro Monaco y Salvatore Oddo organizan el torneo "Terre degli Elimi" en la localidad siciliana. Este año, entre el 28 de julio y el 4 de agosto, se disputó la séptima edición. La ubicación del torneo en la preciosa ciudad medieval cercana a Trapani ofrece unas perspectivas asombrosas.
