Dr. Martin Stichlberger es jurista, pero también se dedica a ser profesor de ajedrez y al periodismo especializado, relacionado cone l ajedrez. Escribía columnas de ajedrez para el KURIER 1989-2006; escribió artículos sobre los campeonatos del mundo y columnas para Schach Aktiv. Es jugador de torneos de vez en cuando. Su valoración Elo más alta jamás fueron 2298 puntos (en 1998). Fue el entrenador del equipo femenino austríaco en la Olimpiada de Moscú 1994 y en el Campeonato de Europa Femenino 1999 en Batumi.
