Yasser Seirawan es uno de los mejores ajedrecistas de EE. UU., un puesto que ha mantenido durante décadas. A los diecinueve se convirtió en Gran Maestro Internacional y en 1979 fue Campeón del Mundo Juvenil; ganó cuatro veces el Campeonato de EE.UU., fue diez veces miembro del equipo ólímpico de EE.UU. y dos veces candidatos al título mundial. Tiene la distinción de haber derrotado tanto a Anatoly Karpov como a Garry Kasparov en torneos durante sus reinados como campeones mundiales. En 2006 fue incluído en el Chess Hall of Fame. Es autor de dieciséis libros, incluyendo Chess Duels publicado en 2010.
