Jóvenes talentos y las estrellas de la elite mundial
Magnus Carlsen, defensor del título, hará su decimonovena aparición en Wijk aan Zee. También estarán presentes los mejores jugadores holandeses Anish Giri y Jorden van Foreest. Nada menos que cinco de los catorce participantes ya han ganado el Torneo de Ajedrez Tata Steel en algún momento. Carlsen se ha coronado campeón en ocho ocasiones y el poseedor del récord (2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 y 2022). Aronian ganó el torneo cuatro veces (2007, 2008, 2012 y 2014). Caruana (2020), So (2017) y Van Foreest (2021) ganaron el torneo una vez.

El director del torneo, Jeroen van den Berg, está muy satisfecho con la gran cantidad de participantes. "Casi todos los mejores ajedrecistas del mundo desean participar aquí en enero. Siempre buscamos la mezcla perfecta entre los mejores jugadores del mundo y las jóvenes promesas. En mi opinión, lo hemos conseguido. Se avecina un torneo con unas interesantísimas partidas. Y no me refiero sólo a las partidas entre los mejores jugadores del mundo. Estoy deseando ver cómo los jóvenes talentos, como Gukesh, de dieciséis años, o Abdusattorov, de dieciocho, competirán con las estrellas de siempre".
Compitiendo por el "título de enero"
"Este es el equipo más fuerte que jamás he visto competir en Wijk aan Zee. Una alineación extremadamente impresionante", comentó Anish Giri, actual número 7 del mundo y embajador del torneo. "Percibo el mismo entusiasmo también entre todos los demás participantes. Es fantástico competir juntos por el codiciado título en enero. Todo el mundo quiere ganar este torneo, como mínimo una vez en su carrera y creo que todos los participantes podrán hacerlo en la próxima edición."
