En un duelo reñido e importante, cuando cuenta cada movimiento, con Ian Nepomniachtchi encabezando la clasificación Ding Liren habrá sentido mucha presión hoy, al jugar con blancas y la posibilidad teórica de igualar el marcador en el caso de una victoria. Pero Ian Nepomniachtchi logró defenderse con las piezas negras durante el final de la partida y mantiene el mando, tras unas tablas en la décima partida disputada hoy.
En la variante de los Cuatro Caballos de la apertura Inglesa, Ian Nepomniachtchi optó por una variante agresiva, pero sólida, en la que las negras no se enrocaron, optando por un avance con los peones por el flanco del rey enemigo. Ding Liren jugó todos los movimientos correctos y alcanzó más iniciativa. Pero al final Ding, a pesar de tener un peón de ventaja, optó por un final con una estructura de peones débil y permitió que las negras encontraran el contraataque suficiente como para no perder.
El final que surgió en esta partida, se parecía un poco a lo que había ocurrido en la novena . En aquella partida, las blancas (Nepomniachtchi) tenían un peón de ventaja en una posición totalmente igualdada, pero optaron por presionar durante otros 30 movimientos más. Hoy le tocó a Ding devolver el favor, ya que igualmente presionaba en una posición igualada con un peón de ventaja.
Las negras consiguieron activar su torre en el flanco de la dama, justo a tiempo para impedir que las blancas tomaran más iniciativa. Ding siguió jugando, procurando ganar la partida de alguna manera u otra, pero Nepomniachtchi se defendió bien e iba mejor de tiempo. Poco a poco, todas las piezas quedaron desalojadas del tablero y después de tres horas de juego, y con sólo los dos reyes quedando en el tablero al final de todo, la partida terminó en tablas tras 45 movimientos.
Un resultado sólido para Nepomniachtchi. A falta de sólo cuatro partidas más, Nepomniachtchi manda 5,5:4,5, lo que le da ventaja en la próxima (undécima) partida, en la que jugará de nuevo con blancas. Por otro lado, Ding tendría que ganar dos partidas y no perder las otras dos, si todavía quiere llevarse la corona mundial del ajedrez a China. En la undécima partida, jugará con negras, lo que cual hace más peligroso el intento de ganar a toda costa.
La undécima partida se disputará mañana lunes, el 24 de abril, a partir de las 11:00 CEST / 15:00 hora local de Astaná.
