El eliminado más destacado fue el ex-campeón Alexander Khalifman. En la competición femenina, Skripchenko sigue adelante, haciendo compañía a su marido (Lautier) Kosteniuk lleva un campeonato fulgurante, en el que sólo ha cedido unas tablas.
