11/11/2021 – Actualmente, hay una exposición especial en el Museo de la Literatura de la Biblioteca Nacional de Austria en Viena sobre el autor Stefan Zweig. Previamente a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Zweig era uno de los autores más importantes de aquel entonces. Como Zweig era judío, se vio forzado a exiliarse. Poco antes de su suicidio en Brasil, Zweig escribió la famosa "Novela de Ajedrez". Kineke Mulder es holandesa pero ahora vive en Viena. Es ajedrecista y organiza muchas actividades relacionadas con juego ciencia en la capital de Austria. Una de las ideas de Kineke era, sacar a al gente a jugar al ajedrez en la calle.

Con motivo de la nueva producción cinematográfica de "La Novela de Ajedrez", basada en la novela de Stefan Zweig, la Biblioteca Nacional de Austria, dentro del Museo de la Literatura (Casa Grillparzer) ha organizado una exposición especial sobre Stefan Zweig.
Zweig era uno de los autores más leídos previamente a la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Como era judío, se vio forzado a huirse de los nazis, desde Europa primero a Inglaterra y desde ahí a Brasil, donde vivía en el exilio.
Poco antes de su suicidio, Zweig escribió la "Novela de Ajedrez" que publicada tras su fallecimiento.
La exposición informa acerca el autor en cierto modo controversial, Stefan Zweig. Zweig, autor muy exitoso, ciudádano del mundo y errante a lo largo de su vida visitó muchos países, desde Europa hasta las Américas; Rusia e India.
A base de unos manuscritos originales, cartas, fotografías, recortes de películas, grabaciones de audio, la exposición ha recoleccionado algunas de las piezas del puzzle de la vida del famosos autor, Stefan Zweig.

La Novela de Ajedrez hoy en día es una de las obras más conocidas de Stefan Zweig. El autor escribió este relato entre los años 1938 y 1941, viviendo en el exilio en Brasil. El libro se publicó solo tras la muerte de Zweig en diciembre de 1942 en una edición limitada de 300 ejemplares. En 1974 se publicó la versión como encuadernación de tapa blanda en Alemania. Mientras tanto, el libro se ha vendido más de un millón de veces. La Novela de Ajedrez trata de los miedos y abismos psícicos de un ex prisionero de la Gestapo (policía secreta de Alemania durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial).
La matería se utilizó para una película de largometraje, por primera vez en 1960, dirigida por Gerd Oswald, con Curd Jürgens como protagonista en el papel del Dr. B. y con Mario Adorf como Mirko Czentovic.
En 2019 salió otra película de cine de "La Novela de Ajedrez". Debido a la pandemia, el estreno fue aplazado hasta el año actual, 2021. El estreno fue el 23 de septiembre de 2021. El director de la nueva versión es Philipp Stölzl. Protagonizan Oliver Masucci, Albrecht Schuch, Birgit Minichmayr y Rolf Lassgad. La nueva versión es una interpretación muy lúgubre y deprimente de la matería.
