Tres jugadores comparten el mando con puntuaciones perfectas después de tres rondas en el Masters de Sharjah. Hans Niemann (14º favorito), Aravindh Chithambaram (19º) y Saleh Salem (30º) están empatados en el primer puesto tras comenzar el torneo con tres victorias consecutivas.
Niemann había dado caza con éxito a Jakhongir Vakhidov el miércoles, y derrotó a Nikolas Theodorou, que había derrotado al favorito del torneo, Arjun Erigaisi, en un encuentro bastante desigual. Aravindh obtuvo una ventaja posicional desde el principio y la convirtió en victoria contra Marcin Krzyzanowski, el jugador menos valorado del grupo de cabeza tras dos rondas. Por último, Salem se impuso a Vladimir Fedoseev con las piezas negras tras una lucha táctica de doble filo (véase el análisis de la partida más abajo).
A medio punto de los líderes hay cinco jugadores: Amin Tabatabaei (5º favorito), Sam Shankland (18º), Volodar Murzin (28º), Abhimanyu Puranik (29º) y Sangalp Gupta (66º). Este último obtuvo dos victorias consecutivas en las rondas 2 y 3, contra Shant Sargsyan y Nodirbek Yakubboev respectivamente.
No hay días de descanso en esta competición a nueve rondas, que concluirá el próximo miércoles.
