Wesley So ha obtenido la ciudadania estadounidense
El jueves pasado, U.S. Chess informó que Wesley So había recibido la ciudania oficial de los Estados Unidos de América, el pasado 26 de febrero de 2021. El documento fue emitido por los Servicios de Inmigración en St. Paul/Minneapolis.
En una entrevista con Debbie Cannon de "U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services" So comentó lo siguiente:
Debbie Cannon: ¿Por qué quieres ser ciudadano de los Estados Unidos de América?
Wesley So: Me gustaría retribuir a este país, que se ha comportado tan bien conmigo. Desde el momento en el que aterricé aquí, me sentía animado y capacitado para mejorar aún más. Me gusta la actitud aquí y la tremenda generosidad de la cultura estadounidense. La mayoría de la gente que vive aquí, no se pueden ni imaginar cómo es vivir en otro lugar del mundo y no saben valorar lo suficiente el increíble espíritu que caracteriza este maravilloso país. He competido en los torneos de ajedrez muchísimos países del mundo y les puedo asegurar que ¡me encanta estar aquí!
¿Cómo te sentías cuando te concedieron la ciudadania estadounidense?
Estaba exhaltado por alegría, muy emocionado; hablaba en voz demasiado alta durante todo el día. Para mí literalmente se había hecho realidad un sueño. Ahora puedo formar parte del famoso "sueño americano". Pertenezco al país más exitoso del mundo y estoy dispuesto a contribuir a ello a y ya tengo mi propio legado aquí.
¿Qué significará eso para tí con respecto al ajedrez?
Bueno, eso no lo puedo predecir con certeza. El ajedrez es un deporte y, al igual que en cualquier otro deporte de elite, el rendimiento del atleta puede y a mejor o a peor por todo tipo de razones. Está claro que haré todo lo posible para estar al tanto de las alturas y devolver lo que se ha hecho por mí. Me he propuesto ser un buen ciudadano y quiero ayudar a los demás, al igual que ellos me han ayudado a mí. ¡Que Dios bendiga América!
