12/09/2012 – El presidente de Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, que también es el presidente de la federación de ajedrez, dio la bienvenida a la selección tricampeona en el aeropuerto internacional de Zvartnots, en Ereván, junto a una multitud de seguidores que participaban en las celebraciones del triunfo. Tras la ceremonia oficial, los ajedrecistas fueron llevados a la plaza de la Libertad para participar en una gala en su honor. La selección armenia, que participa como tal en las olimpiadas desde 1992, ha llevado a casa 3 medallas de oro en este tiempo. Olimpiada de Ajedrez de Estambul 2012
La XL Olimpiada de Ajedrez se celebró entre el 27 de agosto y el 10 de septiembre de 2012 en Estambul (Turquía). Las olimpiadas de ajedrez se suelen llevar a cabo cada dos años, con equipos de todo el globo que compiten entre si. La siguiente será en Tromsø (Noruega) en 2014. La
olimpiada de este año fue ganada por Armenia, seguida por Rusia y Ucrania. La medalla de oro de la
prueba femenina fue ganada por Rusia, la de plata fue para China y Ucrania ganó
la de bronce.
