El análisis retrógrado salió a la palestra de la atención general gracias a una serie de libros de Raymond Smullyan titulados "Juegos y Problemas de ajedrez para Sherlock Holmes" (Editorial Gedisa, Barcelona 1986) Tiene algunos ejemplos en el acertijo de hoy.
