Tras las primeras cuatro rondas, se ha colocado en la cima el gran maestro Ziaur Rahman, de Bangladesh. El principal favorito del torneo es Arkadij Naiditsch con 2701 puntos Elo, seguido por Farruk Amonatov. Por detrás de Rahman (4/4 puntos) va un grupo de 21 jugadores con 3,5/4 puntos. Abierto de Delhi 2018
La Asociación de Ajedrez de Delhi organiza el torneo abierto y están contentos por haber logrado el abierto más grande de India, superando su propio record, establecido en 2017.
El XVI Magistral Abierto Internacional se disputa en el estadio polideportivo Indira Gandhi, en Nueva Delhi. El festival cuenta con varios torneos abiertos. La bolsa de premios asciende a 77,77,777/-. rupias.
Se han apuntado más de 2000 apasionados del ajedrez de toda India y también participan jugadores de otros 29 países, con lo cual también se supera a la cantidad del año pasado.

En la segunda ronda, hubo un pequeño incidiente: Timur Gareyev llegó 33 minutos tarde a la partida. El tiempo de cortesía normalmente es de 30 minutos, pero le permitieron jugar y ganó la partida. Aún así, posteriormente le apuntaron una derrota no obstante por el retraso.
