Casi 700 jugadores de 39 países se darán cita durante diez días para competir en uno de los abiertos más grandes del Mundo. El Abierto Internacional de Sants Hostafrancs i La Bordeta, llega a la XIII edición que se disputa del 19 al 28 de agosto en las Cocheras de Sants de Barcelona. Casi 700 jugadores de 39 países se darán cita durante diez días para competir en uno de los abiertos más grandes del
mundo. La edición de este año batirá de nuevo el record de España de participación y por primera vez tendrá más participantes que torneos míticos como Capelle La Grande o París.
Destaca la presencia de una nutrida representación de jugadores de Francia, Italia y Holanda.
Es también importante la presencia de muchas participantes femeninas, con más del 10% cifra nada habitual en este tipo de torneos. En el grupo A más del 65% de participantes son de fuera de Cataluña.
Entre los participantes, destaca la presencia del campeón de Holanda el GM Jan Smeets, que ocupará el primer tablero del torneo; del GM inglés Matthew Sadler medalla de oro de la Olimpiada del 96 y doble campeón inglés, el GM polaco Dariusz Swiercz reciente campeón del Mundo Junior, el GM argentino afincado en Canadá Anton Kovalyov, el GM Eduardo Iturrizaga de Venezuela, el GM catalán Marc Narciso doble campeón del
Circuit Català en 2006 y 2007 y actual campeón de Cataluña y una nutrida representación de la
federación india.
El torneo coincidirá un año más con las populares fiestas del barrio de Sants, lo que permitirá a los jugadores compaginar el
ajedrez con la cultura popular.
Hay retransmisiones de las partidas. El torneo forma parte del Circuit
Català en su máxima categoría especial. Las partidas comenzarán a las 16:30 horas.
