En Irlanda no suele haber muchos torneos de ajedrez y, si no fuese porque el gran maestro ruso Alexander Baburin se
fue a vivir allí, quién sabe cuanto peor todavía estaría el ambiente a ese respecto. Eso sí, el pueblo de Bunratty (más propiamente dicho: "Bun na Raite",
que en irlandés significa "donde termina el río Raite") tiene cierta tradición ajedrecística. Desde el año 1994 se suele llevar
celebrar un festival de ajedrez anualmente. El número de participantes no está nada mal para Irlanda. Entre los vencedores de los años pasados se encuentran unos cuantos nombres conocidos.
