El jueves, Judit Polgar, la ajedrecista número uno de todos los tiempos, y su hermana Sofía, también muy respetada, se enfrentaron a 40 contrincantes alemanes en nombre de los 134 rehenes israelíes desaparecidos. Recibieron un enorme apoyo, y Judit expresó sus sentimientos en las redes sociales: "Asistí a uno de los acontecimientos más conmovedores y emotivos de mi vida, luchando contra las lágrimas. Fue único en todos los sentidos. Nunca lo olvidaré". Los familiares de Gadi Moses y Carmel Gat hablaron con emotivas palabras de sus seres queridos, cautivos de Hamás desde hacía 160 días. Funcionarios alemanes se pronunciaron contra el antisemitismo.
Marlene Schoenberg, miembro del Parlamento Alemán y anfitriona del acto, señaló en su discurso de apertura la importancia de luchar contra el antisemitismo en estos tiempos, que está estallando globalmente y amenazando a los judíos de todo el mundo, además de afirmar que debe impedirse que Hamás lleve a cabo más ataques contra Israel en el futuro. Schoenberg agradeció a la Federación de Ajedrez de Berlín por la organización del acto, en el que también se celebró una mesa redonda sobre el antisemitismo en el deporte.

Ingrid Lauterbach, presidenta de la Federación Alemana de Ajedrez, declaró que deberían tomarse medidas más enérgicas contra Irán que impidan a los jugadores iraníes competir contra israelíes. El embajador adjunto de Israel en Alemania, Aharon Sagi, señaló que las relaciones entre Israel y Alemania son más fuertes que nunca. Paul Meyer Dunker, presidente de la Federación de Ajedrez de Berlín, declaró: "Me alegro de que este acontecimiento refuerce los lazos entre las comunidades ajedrecísticas israelí y alemana. No hay lugar para el antisemitismo y nuestros amigos judíos del ajedrez pueden estar seguros de que siempre estaremos a su lado".
Además, Lior Aizenberg, director general y Fundador de Chess4All y Chess4Solidarity Initiative, que organizó el acto desde la parte israelí, habló de la iniciativa Chess4Solidarity, que pretende luchar contra el antisemitismo y conectar a jugadores de todo el mundo. En otra señal de fuertes lazos, se celebró en la plataforma Lichess una competición internacional de blitz en línea en tres categorías, con 133 participantes de Israel y Alemania. El gran maestro Georg Meier (ganador de la Macabeada de ajedrez de Jerusalén 2019), ganó el grupo de la corona con una puntuación perfecta de 9 puntos en 9 partidas, por delante de los MI David Gorodetzky y Yuri Zhizmer con 6½ puntos cada uno. Los directores del torneo en línea fueron: Idan Lavi, Jonathan Born y Matias Petasny. Los comentaristas fueron: el FM alemán Christian Polster y el FM israelí Shachar Gindi. Tras el éxito de este acontecimiento, se ha decidido reforzar las relaciones entre ambos países organizando más actividades de este tipo en el futuro.
