El formato consta de dos grupos de ocho jugadores cada uno. Los ocho jugadores compiten en torneos por eliminatoria a doble vuelta. El formato de doble eliminación garantiza una segunda oportunidad para cualquier jugador que pierda un match.
Los participantes juegan un match clásico a dos partidas, seguido de desempates rápidos si es necesario. Los ganadores avanzan en el cuadro de campeonato, mientras que los que pierden su partida continúan con el ajedrez rápido en el cuadro de eliminación. Cualquiera que pierda su partida en el cuadro de eliminación queda eliminado del torneo.
Controles de tiempo
El control de tiempo clásico será de 90 minutos más incrementos de 30 segundos desde la primera jugada (G/90+30).
El control de tiempo rápido será de 25 minutos más incrementos de 10 segundos desde la primera jugada (G/25+10).
El control de tiempo de desempate será de 10 minutos más incrementos de 5 segundos desde el primer movimiento (G/10+5).
