Los participantes disputan un match clásico a dos partidas, seguido de desempates a rápidas de ser necesario. Los ganadores avanzan en el Cuadro de Campeones, mientras que quienes pierden continúan en el Cuadro de Eliminación, donde se juega a ritmo rápido. Todo jugador que pierda su match en el Cuadro de Eliminación queda fuera del torneo.
El control de tiempo clásico es de 90 minutos para toda la partida más un incremento de 30 segundos por jugada desde la primera (G/90+30).
El control de tiempo rápido es de 25 minutos para toda la partida más un incremento de 10 segundos por jugada desde la primera (G/25+10).
El control de tiempo para el playoff es de 3 minutos para toda la partida más un incremento de 2 segundos por jugada desde la primera (G/3+2).
El control de tiempo Armagedón será el siguiente: las blancas disponen de 3 minutos y las negras de 2 minutos, con un incremento de 2 segundos por jugada desde la primera.
En el Cuadro de Campeones, cada match constará de dos partidas clásicas.
En el Cuadro de Eliminación, cada match constará de dos partidas rápidas.
En los Playoffs, los jugadores disputarán un match de dos partidas blitz. Si el match termina empatado, repetirán el proceso hasta que se determine un ganador.

02/03/2026 – Mikhail Antipov ganó el Saint Louis Masters tras sumar 7½ puntos y terminar medio punto por delante de Fabiano Caruana. El GM nacido en Rusia, que compite bajo la bandera de Estados Unidos, consiguió una impresionante victoria sobre Andy Woodward en la última ronda. Había llegado a la ronda final empatado a puntos con el favorito por rating. Se trata de un torneo suizo a nueve rondas, que cuenta con un fondo de premios de 100 000 dólares y controles de tiempo clásicos, con la participación de 70 jugadores. El número tres del mundo, Fabiano Caruana, es el claro favorito por rating. King’s Indian fans who choose the Mar del Plata attack (7...Nc6) against White’s classical system (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 e5 7.0-0) usually aim for a complex position with mutual attacks on open wings, requiring long-term strategic planning and tactical sharpness in critical moments. Computers often do not know how to handle the arising complex strategic positions, which suits players who like to think on their own instead of memorizing long variations. However, the fashionable Bayonet Attack (9.b4) interferes with Black’s ideas. After Black’s main move 9...Nh5 the positions opens, the lines get forced and computer analysis is important again. But this DVD offers an antidote against White’s Bayonet Attack, namely 9...a5! This move leads to sound positions with very few concrete lines, in which the focus is on strategy not on tactics. Objectively chances are equal but if Black knows what to do things might quickly become dangerous for White.
In almost every chess game there comes a moment when you just can’t go on without tactics. You must strike to not giving away the advantage you have worked for the whole game.
