Con casi 80 de los 172 participantes, la India aportó, con diferencia, el mayor contingente en el 22º Abierto de Dubai, que finalizó el domingo 4 de septiembre.
Al final del torneo, siete jugadores entre los diez primeros venían de la India. Sólo el ruso Aleksandr Predke (2º), que jugó bajo la bandera de la FIDE, el iraní Seyed Kian Poormosavi (8º) y el serbio Alexandar Indjic (9º) lograron la hazaña de colarse en la falange india.
El ganador fue Aravindh Chithambaram, el único jugador que obtuvo 7,5 puntos en 9 rondas. Le siguieron cinco jugadores con 7,0/9 cada uno, y de este grupo Predke y Praggnanandhaa tuvieron la mejor valoración en desempates.
Arjun Erigaisi terminó con 6,5/9 puntos, lo que le hizo ganar algunos puntos de rating y le ayudó a seguir ascendiendo en el ranking mundial.
En la séptima ronda, Aravindh derrotó al antiguo líder del torneo, el kazajo Rinat Jumabayev, y en la octava ronda venció a Arjun. Un empate contra Praggnanandhaa en la novena ronda fue suficiente para que Aravindh ganara el torneo.
