Torneo Atahualpa in Memoriam
Además como parte del festival en la noche del 18 de noviembre del 2016, se realizará el I Torneo Abierto IRT de ajedrez relámpago “Atahualpa in memoriam” a ritmo de 5 minutos + 3 segundos de incremento, con una bolsa de premios de 1.500 nuevos soles.
No sólo se trata de dos torneos con validación Elo, sino que es un festival ajedrecístico acorde con la semana de Fusión Cultural de Cajamarca - Perú, de la celebración del Encuentro de Dos Mundos (Europa y América), en conmemoración del enfrentamiento del Inca Atahualpa - el último Inca del Tahuantinsuyo, y los conquistadores españoles, que tuvo lugar en la ciudad de Cajamarca el 16 de noviembre del año 1532.
Tal como lo relata el insigne escritor Ricardo Palma en sus "Tradiciones Peruanas", hubieron algunos incas ajedrecistas: Manco Inca y Atahualpa, que aprendieron a jugar observando a los españoles, siendo éste último el primer Inca que aprendió a jugar ajedrez. Este hecho suele ser la base del porqué tenemos muy buenos ajedrecistas nacionales, que lo han ratificado en estas últimas Olimpiadas de Ajedrez de Baku con su histórico décimo puesto.
El festival ajedrecístico se va a inaugurar el 16 de noviembre del presente año, con la presentación del Ajedrez Viviente (representación de Incas vs Españoles) y con simultáneas de ajedrez contra 100 jugadores a cargo del GM Cristhian Cruz y el MI Deyvi Vera.
