I Grand Prix de la FIDE en Bakú
El primer torneo del Grand Prix FIDE se está desarrollando en Bakú
(Azerbaijan), del 20 de abril al 6 de mayo de 2008. Hay 13 rondas y dos días de
descanso (26 de abril y 1 de mayo) La prueba está organizada por Global
Chess y forma parte de la serie de seis torneos que se disputarán a lo
largo de dos años (2008-2009) Veintiún ajedrecistas del más alto nivel han sido
seleccionados para competir en esos torneos y cada jugador se ha comprometido
contractualmente a participar en cuatro de ellos. El ganador de las series del
Grand Prix a finales de 2009 jugará contra el vencedor de la Copa del Mundo que
se dispute en 2009 en un encuentro a ocho partidas, para decidir el retador del
Campeón del Mundo, en un encuentro que se disputará en el tercer trimestre de
2010.
