24/02/2021 – Bobby Fischer se coronó Campeón del Mundo cuando Boris Spassy se rindió en la 21ª partida del duelo, el 1 de septiembre de 1972 en Reikavik. Bobby Fischer en el show de Johnny Carsons
El "Tonight Show" fue el primer programa de este tipo en el mundo. Se estrenó el 27 de septiembre de 1954 con el nombre "Tonight" (anoche). El éxito más grande tenía el programa cuando lo presentaba Johnny Carson, que lo presentaba desde el año 1962 hasta el final de su carrera televisiva en 1992 .

En la octava emisión del programa, el 8 de noviembre de 1972, el invitado de Carson fue Bobby Fischer. Decían que Fischer era difícil de trato, caprichoso, a veces malhumorado. Pero Carson demostró sus mañas como presentador y le hizo preguntas interesante y críticas en un tono muy ambable y Fischer se las contestó todas, de manera franca y amable.
Le preguntó, por ejemplo, por sus planes para el futuro, si le gustaría casarse o si el ajedrez podría hacer daño a la gente. Fischer contestó que se podría imaginar ser campeón del mundo durante 30 años y que un matrimonio, aunque podría dañar un poco su carrera sí le parecía posible y que suponía que al ser el número uno, se lo podrá permitir.

Por supuesto, también hablaron del duelo por el título mundial Spassky vs. Fischer. Carson le preguntó si Fischer habría intentado meterle miedo psicológicamente. Fischer contestó que no, que esa no había sido su intención y que sabía por amigos y enemigos comunes que a Spassky le gustó que él, Fischer, había insistido en unas buenas condiciones de juego y una bolsa elevada de premios.
Otro punto culminante del programa fue cuando Fischer mostró sus mañas y resolvió el puzzle-15 .
"No me quiero hacer el chulo, pero soy el más rápido del mundo".
