El Campeonato Británico de Ajedrez de este año se celebra en la Universidad de Warwick, en Coventry, del 1 al 9 de agosto.
Esta es la 112.ª edición del Campeonato Británico de Ajedrez, que se ha desarrollado casi sin interrupciones desde 1904. Un aumento repentino de inscripciones ha llevado la cifra de participantes a más de 1750 ajedrecistas, lo que convierte la edición de 2026 en la más populosa de la historia del evento. El festival de nueve días también contará con la mayor bolsa de premios jamás ofrecida en el campeonato, un programa ampliado de actividades y un impulso significativo para el ajedrez femenino.
El torneo es un abierto suizo a 9 rondas, con un ritmo de juego de 90 minutos para las primeras 40 jugadas, más 30 minutos hasta el final de la partida y 30 segundos de incremento desde la primera jugada.
Las rondas se disputan del 1 al 9 de agosto, sin días de descanso. La acción comienza cada día a las 14:30, hora local (15:30 Madrid), excepto la última ronda, que empieza a las 10:00.

Las actividades, en línea y presenciales, buscan ampliar la comunidad global de educadores certificados, mediante metodologías pedagógicas, herramientas digitales y estándares internacionales. 28/07/2026 – En un comunicado de prensa, la FIDE acaba de anunciar que Ginebra será la sede del Campeonato Mundial de la FIDE de 2026, que enfrentará al vigente campeón, Gukesh Dommaraju, con el retador Javokhir Sindarov, del 25 de noviembre al 15 de diciembre. El anuncio pone fin a meses de especulaciones sobre la sede y lleva de nuevo a Suiza el duelo por el título, por primera vez desde que Vladimir Kramnik y Peter Leko se enfrentaron en Brissago en 2004. Gukesh y Sindarov, ambos de 20 años, disputarán el Campeonato Mundial más joven de la historia del ajedrez.
