El Campeón del Mundo Magnus Carlsen volverá a Azerbaiyán para participar en la exta edición del Memorial Vugar Gashimov en Shamkir. Se trata de un torneo por sistema de liga, con 10 jugadores.
XXI Abierto de Dubai. Entre los participantes están: Le Quang Liem, Wang Hao y Maxim Matlakov. Muchos de los participantes acuden directamente desde el Sharjah Masters.
El lugar del encuentro vuelve a ser el edificio de conciertos "Harpa" en Reikiavik. El torneo existe d3sde el año 1964 y se ha disputado a ritmo anaul desde 2008. Participan alrededor de los 250 jugadores de ajedrez.

Del 10 al 23 de abril: Campeonato de Europa Femenino
El Campeonato de Europa Femenino se disputa en Antalya, Turquía. Se trata de un torneo a 11 rondas y sirve también para que las mejores jugadoras se puedan clasificar para la participación en la próxima Copa del Mundo Femenina.
Del 15 al 25 de abri: Campeonato del Mundo de Veteranos por equipos
El torneo se disputa en las secciones mayores a los 50 y mayores a los 65 años, en las secciones abierta y ffemenina. Lugar: Rodas (Grecia)
Este será el próximo torneo de Magnus Carlsen, directamente tras su participación en Shamkir. El VI Grenke Chess Classic se disputa en Karlsruhe y Baden-Baden (Alemania). Participantes: Carlsen, Caruana, Aronian, Anand, Vachier-Lagrave, Svidler, Naiditsch, Vallejo, Meier y Vincent Keymer. Se trata de un torneo de liga a 9 rondas.
