Campeonato Continental de Asia 2022

La Federación India de Ajedrez (All Indian Chess Federation) fue la anfitriona del Campeonato Continental de Asia 2022, disputado entre el 26 de octubre y el 3 de noviembre, en Nueva Delhi. Dos tercios de los participantes eran jugadoras y jugadores indios, entre ellos unos cuantos grandes maestros muy fuertes. Eso sí, los jugadores más fuertes de India no participaron.

El principal favorito había sido el joven gran maestro indio, Praggnanandhaa. Se adjudicó la victoria por escaso margen por delante de su compatriota, Narayanan y el uzbeco Nodirbek Yakubboev.

Con tres victorias y tres empates en las seis primeras rondas, Praggnanandhaa no tuvo mal comienzo, pero otro jugador lo hizo mejor. El líder, con cinco puntos tras seis rondas, era el indio Harsha Bharathakoti. El favorito del torneo, Praggnanandhaa, formaba parte del grupo de perseguidores de once jugadores con medio punto de desventaja.
A continuación, Praggnanandhaa derrotó a Murali Karthikeyan en la séptima ronda y le alcanzó en la clasificación en la octava ronda. el séptimo asalto y lo siguió en el octavo. Tras su victoria frente a Koustav Chatterjee, Pragg se colocó en la cima de la clasificación como líder en solitario.

En la competición femenina Nandhidhaa P V se coronó campeona con 7,5/9 puntos y un punto completo de ventaja frente a su más cercana perseguidora. Nandhidhaa había sido vicecampeona del mundo en la categoria sub-20 en 2016 y obtuvo el título de gran maestra femenina en 2019.

La joven de 26 años pertenecía al grupo de líderes desde la tercera ronda y se puso en cabeza en solitaria en la séptima. Su victoria en el torneo ya era segura una ronda antes de la última ronda.
La favorita por valoración Elo había sido Tania Sachdev. La popular comentarista sufrió una derrota en la quinta ronda y contra la que más adelante iba a ser la subcampeona, Priyanka Nutakki y firmó tablas en todas las partidas restantes. Al final Sachdev ocupó el puesto número 18.
