11/10/2002 – Shirov sigue con el turbo puesto. En la primera partida de la final descerrajó la Caro-Kann de Vallejo cuando en la jugada 20 entregó su dama a cambio de torre y caballo. Luego tardó hasta la jugada 79 para anotarse el punto. Vallejo se ve obligado ahora a lanzarse en pos de la victoria en la segunda partida de la final para hacer que no sea la definitiva.
