Hoy, en una partida con la variante anti-Marshal de la Ruy López, ambos jugadores jugaron rápidos durante la apertura, pero la posición que se produjo durante le mediojego, parecía favorecer más el estilo de juego de Nepomniachtchi. Realizó un avance con h2-h4-h5 en el flanco del rey. Eso le sirvió como base para el futuro ataque por el flanco del rey, mientras que Ding estaba a la defensiva.
