La séptima partida del duelo por el título del Campeón del Mundo de Ajedrez de la FIDE, llega a un final súbito con la victoria de Ian Nepomniachtchi, después de que Ding Liren se desmoronara cuando sólo le quedaban segundos en el reloj.
Jugando la Defensa Francesa, Ding Liren consiguió crear una sólida posición jugando con negras. Tenía un peón débil en c6, pero sus piezas tenían más actividad que las de Nepomniachtchi. Sin embargo, en el transcurso de la partida, Ian Nepomniachtchi pudo obtener más iniciativa y presionar por el flanco del rey. La partida fue agresiva. Ding simplificó la posición, intercambiando piezas pesadas, pero cada vez entró en más apuros de tiempo.
Con sólo 44 segundos en el reloj, en una posición crítica, Ding se equivocó al jugar 33...Td3, tras lo cual estaba completamente perdido y pronto tuvo que darse por vencido.
La partida duró 37 movimientos y algo menos de cuatro horas.
En las siete partidas del duelo, jugadas hasta ahora, cinco terminaron con resultado decantado. Tras la séptima partida, Nepomniachtchi manda con 4:3.
