El Match por el Campeonato del Mundo de la FIDE es uno de los acontecimientos ajedrecísticos más importantes y seguidos en todo el mundo. Se celebra cada dos años y en él participan el vigente campeón del mundo y el retador, quien se gana el derecho a desafiar al campeón tras superar un proceso de clasificación que culmina en el Torneo de Candidatos, en el que participan ocho de los mejores jugadores del mundo.
El actual campeón del mundo es Ding Liren, que se aseguró el título al derrotar a Ian Nepomniachtchi en un emocionante match que se decidió por desempates en Astaná (Kazajistán) en abril de 2023. El retador es el prodigio indio Gukesh D, de 18 años, que salió victorioso en el Torneo de Candidatos celebrado en Toronto en abril de 2024. Gukesh es el retador más joven al título en la historia del ajedrez.
El match se está jugando en Singapur, en el lujoso Resorts World Sentosa, un complejo turístico de primera categoría conocido por sus instalaciones de categoría mundial y su impresionante ubicación.
El match consta de 14 partidas. El jugador que consiga 7½ puntos o más ganará el match, y no se jugarán más partidas. Si el marcador está igualado después de 14 partidas, el ganador se decidirá por desempates a partidas rápidas.
El control de tiempo es de 120 minutos para las primeras 40 jugadas, seguido de 30 minutos para el resto de la partida, con un incremento de 30 segundos a partir de la jugada 41.
