El V Campeonato de Ajedrez-Boxeo se disputó en Italia y fue un espectáctulo de ensueño, al menos desde el punto de vista de los ajedrecistas-boxeadores alemanes: se llevaron el oro en ocho competiciones. Además ganaron dos medallas de plata y una de bronce.
Alina Rath defendió su título por tercer año consecutivo y protagonizó una emocionante final contra la rusa Amina Ilurnova, que ganó en la quinta ronda.
El participante más joven del torneo es Arminius Rolle, de 13 años, hijo del entrenador berlinés de ajedrez y boxeo Robert Rolle. Ganó el oro en la categoría junior en su primer intento.
El prometedor club Chessboxing Colonia causó sensación, ya que sus seis púgiles pasaron invictos por el torneo y se hicieron con el oro mundial. Hasan Celik disputó cuatro combates y se abrió camino hasta la cima con dos nocauts en el cuarto asalto, una victoria en el reloj de ajedrez y un jaque mate en la final. Su rival en la final es el mismo de los Campeonatos del Mundo de 2022 en Antalya y Hasan logra una gran revancha.

El artista de Colonia Hans Vinzenz Seidl derrotó a la boxeadora profesional inscrita en Boxrec Marry Corr en el primer combate y al italiano Nicoló Tiraboschi en la final. Un vídeo de Tiktok del artista de Colonia se hace viral en las redes sociales, popularizando el boxeo de ajedrez en Alemania.
El paseo pesado Latifi ganó gracias a un jaque y mate en el tablero de ajedrez en la ronda tres.

El entrenador y propulsor de este deporte, Denno Probst está muy contento con los resultados porque so club no solamente se ha subido al podio por primera vez de las tres mejores naciones de ajedrez boxeo, sino también ha sido el equipo más exitoso en el Campeonato del Mundo de Ajedrez Boxeo. "Veni, vidi, vici".

El V Campeonato del Mundo de la WCBO fue organizado por la Federación Italiana de Ajedrez Boxeo F.I.S.P. bajo la dirección de Volfgango Rizzi y fue todo un éxito. Rizzi ha sido un hombre de primera hora desde el comienzo del deporte de moda y ha establecido nuevos estándares con su equipo.
Participaron 16 naciones de los cinco continentes, un aumento significativo respecto a los Campeonatos del Mundo del año pasado. Sin duda, esto se debió también a la pausa de dos años de la corona, pero fue un privilegio luchar por el título mundial como un gladiador romano en la soleada Riccione.
La WCBO también tiene una nueva presidenta: se llama Lara Armas, de Chessboxing Francia, habla cinco idiomas, incluido el alemán, y trabaja en el Comité Olímpico para París 2024.
Rusia está planeando los próximos Campeonatos del Mundo de 2024. Se espera que se celebren en Armenia o Kazajstán y que tengan lugar en octubre, lo que promete emocionantes combates en el ring y sobre el tablero.
