El presidente de la FIDE Arkady Dvorkovich estuvo presente en el acto inaugural. Por primera vez las secciones absoluta y femenina cuentan con la misma cantidad de participantes: participan 94 ajedrecistas en cada una de las dos secciones. La llegada del presidente de la FIDE iba a llegar a la ceremonia inaugural a las 14:30, pero llegó una hora tarde involuntariamente por los atascos.

En la sección abierta a chicos y chicas, están participando 94 ajedrecistas. Haz 78 jugadores con títulos FIDE, entre ellos 15 grandes maestros y 31 maestros internacionales.
El favorito del torneo es GM Amin Tabatabaei. Aparte de él, hay otros 18 jugadores con valoraciones Elo superiores a los 2500 puntos.
