Este año Evgeny Shtembuliak se muestra con la intención de imitar a la hazaña de su predecesor. Dicho eso, todavía faltan cuatro rondas más que disputar y nunca se sabe lo que va a pasar. En la séptima ronda, disputada ayer, Evgeny Shtembuliak se impuso a Aram Hakobyan en una partida reñida. Shtembuliak previamente a la octava ronda manda con 6/7 puntos. Su perseguidor más cercano es Miguel Santos con 5,5/7. En la sección femenina, Mobina Alinasab tras unas tablas contra Stavroula Tsolakidou sigue en cabeza de la clasificación, pero ha sido alcanzada por Polina Shuvalova también tiene 6/7 puntos.
