Tiene relativamente buenas oportunidades porque tras 9 de 11 rondas lidera con 7 puntos y saca medio de ventaja a su mayor rival, Hikaru Nakamura. Campeonato de EE. UU. Individual Absoluto 2012
Entre el 8 y el 19/20 de mayo, se está celebrando el Campeonato de EE.UU. en las competiciones absoluta y femenina. Los 12 mejores jugadores de los Estados Unidos de América se enfrentan en un torneo por sistema de liga (11 rondas). El vigente campeón Gata Kamsky procurará defender su título y ganar el campeonato por tercera vez consecutiva. En la prueba femenina participan las 10 mejores jugadoras de EE.UU. y se verán las caras en un torneo por sistema de liga (9 rondas). Anna Zatonskih es la defensora del título. La bolsa de premios es de $160.000 en la sección absoluta y si alguien consiguiese terminar con el marcador perfecto (11 puntos) se le pagaría el llamado "Premio Fischer" (porque Bobby Fischer fue el último que ganó todas las partidas en el Campeonato de EE.UU.) y recibiría 64.000 dólares más en metálico. La bolsa de premios de la competición femenina es de $ 64.000.
