Ronda 5. El empate con Gros mantiene arriba al club cántabro
El Solvay tendría el título prácticamente asegurado sin la derrota de Ubilava ante Santi González. El ex entrenador de Kárpov y Anand –entre otros muchos pupilos ilustres- había logrado un punto muy importante el miércoles frente al campeón de España, Iván Salgado (Sestao), pero ayer tomó la errónea decisión de sacrificar su caballo, inferior al alfil de González, porque creyó que la posición resultante era de tablas técnicas.
Los compañeros de Ubilava hicieron gala, un día más, de la solidez, buena forma y espíritu de equipo que les han puesto tan cerca de un triunfo sorprendente. Ganguly (mejor tercer tablero con 4 puntos de 5 partidas) ganó a Bauer; Nisipeanu (2,5 de 4 en el primero), Negi (3,5 de 5 en el segundo), Délchev (mejor cuarto junto a López Martínez con 4 de 5) y De la Villa (3,5 de 5 en el sexto) hicieron tablas con Bacrot, Van Wely, Franco y Argandoña, respectivamente.
El tropiezo de Ubilava se vio compensado por el empate entre Sestao Naturgás y Enracha-SC Colón de Sabadell. Salgado (Sestao) se rehízo y ganó a Álvar Alonso, pero su compañero Edouard cayó ante López Martínez. Lo cierto es que el equipo vizcaíno estuvo muy cerca de encajar su segunda derrota, porque Magem rozó la victoria frente a Vachier-Lagrave, quien aprovechó los apuros de tiempo del catalán. También terminaron en tablas los duelos Leinier Domínguez-Navara, Giri-Vallejo y Del Río-Oms.
El reparto del punto entre el mejor sub 20 del mundo y el mejor español tuvo una historia interesante. Giri metió la lucha en terrenos desconocidos ya en la octava jugada, a lo que Vallejo respondió con un sacrificio de pieza por desarrollo y ataque. El holandés encontró entonces una repetición de jugadas, que el menorquín aceptó; si cualquiera de los dos se desviaba, quedaba peor. Pero no se había alcanzado aún la jugada 30, como estipula el reglamento de la FEDA. Sin embargo, el árbitro principal, Juan Vargas, interpretó que el desenlace de la partida no contravenía el espíritu de la norma, y certificó el resultado.
Sestao comparte ahora el segundo puesto con Equigoma-Casa Social Católica, de Ávila, que se impuso por 4,5-1,5 al Escola d’Escacs, mientras el Mágic daba un paso casi decisivo para la salvación al empatar con el Atocha. Lo menos claro a falta de dos rondas es quiénes ocuparan la segunda, tercera y cuarta plazas, que probablemente clasificarán para la próxima Copa de Europa 2014; si se confirma que su sede será Bilbao, habrá cuatro equipos españoles; si no, serán tres.
Luis Rentero, artífice de los históricos torneos Ciudad de Linares, visitó la sala de juego, en compañía de Ljubomir Ljubójevic.
En el torneo femenino Ciudad de Linares, las cinco españolas siguen en las cinco últimas plazas, pero Yudania Hernández (6ª) está subiendo su Elo y luchando por ganarse un puesto en la selección española que disputará el Campeonato de Europa en Varsovia dentro de dos meses. Hoy se enfrenta a otra candidata a ese puesto, Amalia Aranaz, y cerrará el torneo frente a la georgiana Sopiko Guramishvili, líder con medio punto de ventaja sobre la rusa Anastasia Savina.
