En uno de los programas participó el gran maestro de ajedrez Isaac Kashdan, a quien llama "Ashcan" (juego de palabras con el apellido que significa "lata de ceniza") y con quien bromea sobre el ajedrez. El concurso norteamericano "You Bet Your Life" comenzó en 1947 en la radio,
pero pasó a la televisión en 1950 (en realidad se emitía simultáneamente por
radio y televisión) El formato en si del concurso era secundario con respecto a
las interpelaciones entre Groucho Marx y los participantes. Normalmente estos
eran un hombre y una mujer, a menudo seleccionados entre el público del estudio.
En ciertas ocasiones también se invitaba a jugar a figuras famosas o
interesantes en alguna faceta. Parte de la tensión del programa radicaba en si
el concursante diría la "palabra secreta", que se comunicaba al público al
comienzo. Si un concursante decía la palabra, un pato de juguete parecido a
Groucho descendía del techo para otorgar un billete 100 $. Groucho a veces
dirigía la conversación astutamente buscando que saliese la palabra secreta.

Kashdan (Noviembre 1905 – 20 de febrero de 1985)
Les ofrecemos el encuentro entre Groucho y Kashdan. El vídeo completo, que
puede que algunos de ustedes quieran ver por motivos históricos, dura treinta
minutos. Debería comenzar automáticamente en el momento en el que Groucho se
dirige a Kashdan. La dama, por cierto, es Helen Schwarz, la madre de Tony
Curtis.
Un momento interesante del programa es cuando Kashdan, entorno a los 5
minutos del vídeo dice: "Es muy complicado hacer trampas en ajedrez, porque hay
unas normas generales de caracter internacional. Si se siguen las normas, es un
juego en el que realmente no se puede hacer trampas". A lo que Groucho responde:
"Si no puedo hacer trampas, olvídelo. La única diversión que tengo en los juegos
es hacer trampas".
