Elisbeth Pähtz ganó la última partida de su duelo contra Alexandra Kosteniuk y forzó el desempate, aunque en él se impuso la rusa. Vishy Anand se las arregló para ganar la última partida de su match contra Ruslan Ponomariov, así que se impuso, sin dejarle posibilidad de reacción al actual campeón de la FIDE.
