Entre el 26 y el 29 de mayo de 2020 se disputará el torneo "Clutch Chess" con las cuatro estrellas estadounidenses Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura y Leinier Dominguez. La bolsa de premios asciende a 100.000 dólares.
El torneo tiene una peculiaridad: el sistema de puntuación funcionará de manera fuera de lo normal. La expresión "to clutch something" significa "coger/agarrar algo". (Es por eso que se llaman así también aquellas pequeñas bolsas de mano paramujeres, que no son mucho más grandes que un monedero).

En el torneo se trata de "agarrar" o "hacerse con" la victoria y así decidirlo a su favor.
Este torneo cuadrangular se disputará por sistema eliminatorio a 12 partidas. La novedad es que las partidas 1 - 4 y las partidas 7 -10 se valorarán de manera habitual. Pero también habrá partias que servirán para que los jugadores se puedan apuntar puntos adicionales de bonus y que les brindarán también premios adicionales. Esas partidas serán las partidas de las rondas 5, 6, 11 y 12. Las partidas 5 y 5, serán galardonadas con 2 puntos por victoria. Las partidas 11 y 12 incluso con 3 puntos por una victoria.

La idea es, aumentar la emoción porque será posible conquistar puntos importantes para igual aún cambiar el resultado del torneo en aquellas partidas cuyas victorias contarán más de lo normal.
El ritmo de juego será de 10 minutos + 5 segundos de incremento.
Aparentemente, el torneo debe servir como prueba para un torneo más grande que está planificando el Club de Ajedrez de San Luis y que se disputará entre el 6 y el 14 de junio de 2020, si esta prueba ahora resultase ser un éxito.
